Using Hotmail with Thunderbird 3
As I couldn’t find easy steps to follow to use Hotmail with Thunderbird 3, I decided to write my own article about it. And as screenshots are better than thousands of words, here you have. The screenshots are in french, but it’s trivial to understand which field is what.
Comme je ne parvenais pas à trouver une marche à suivre simple pour utiliser Hotmail depuis Thunderbird 3, j’ai décidé d’écrire mon propre article dessus. Comme des captures d’écran valent mille mots, voici pour vous.

The easy steps I prefer are "File – New – Mail Account (Quick Setup), type your name, email address, password, click the Next button, wait a few seconds, click the Create Account button."
haha, sure, but the quick setup doesn’t exist for Hotmail (yet).
It sure seems to for me, though I can’t find the bug where it was added (I used it for my failure-case while reviewing the autoconfig patch, so I do remember the times when it didn’t, but now I hit the "checking Mozilla Community configurations" step and get the live.com servers filled in).
Maybe in the coming beta3? I’m still using beta2.
Thanks for the screenshots!
I wrote smtp port number is 587. ıts succesfull.
hey, thanks so much!
I looked at 50 different sites and I needed to see yours to make it work. The big sticker was STARTLS instead of SSL/TLS.
good job!
You are right… it was trial and error setting up Thunderbird 3. Hotmail has been around forever, you think Mozilla would have made it easier!!
Here’s a screen [English] capture of the needed Hotmail/Thunderbird 3 SMTP settings:

Thanks for the easy info. Much Thanks!
thanks ^^
très facile
When i set with STARTLS instead of SSL/TLS, this message coming up (i’m italian so i’ll try to translate in english): Impossible make a safe connection with server SMTP smtp.live.com using STARTTLS because it doesn’t support this characteristic. Disable STARTTLS for that server or contact your own service provider.
what i’m gonna do? T_T
for me worked with port 995
For those using Swisscom, the port must now be 587 instead of 25.
Thank you! had trouble connecting, fixed it with this!!!
